A brilliant music composer and lyricist Ravindra Jain was one of the doyens of film industry. Despite his disability of blindness he attained much success by composing some of the most melodious tunes ever heard. Winner of Filmfare Best Music Director Award in 1985, he was a role model for many people. His death on 9 October 2015 at the age of 71 was a great loss to the music industry.
Winner of Padma Shri, Ravindra Jain was known for his unique music and style. A born fighter he was a genius who overcame his blindness and composed soulful tunes in several films including 'Chitchor' and 'Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se'. His years in film industry saw his association with all big banners and stars.
Personal Life
Born blind on February 28, 1944, to a Sanskrit scholar father, Pandit Indramani Jain and mother Kiran Jain he was third child among seven brothers and one sister. Originally his family hailed from Aligarh. Though born blind, he never let his blindness obstruct his way. During childhood days he used to sing ‘bhajans’ at temples. To make him proficient in the field of music his parents send him to Pt GL Jain and Pt Janardhan Sharma for formal education in music. Here he got the opportunity to further hone his talent by composing song for legendry Md. Rafi. Unfortunately, this song never released, but it never stopped him from rising above the average. Ravindra Jain was married to Divya Jain and together they had a son named Aayushman Jain. He passed away on 9 October 2015 at the age of 71 from multiple organ failure.
Professional Career
The blind singer and composer Ravindra Jain started his film career as a composer with a Mohd Rafi song that never released. This did not deter him at all. He became a household name and a role model for many by composing most memorable numbers in super hit movies like Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se, Chitchor, Chor Machaye Shor, Geet Gaata Chal, Shyam Tere Kitne Naam, Ram Teri Ganga Maili, Henna, among many others. His pairing with musician KJ Yesudas was a hit as the duo produced memorable songs like ‘Gori tera gaon bada pyara’ (Chitchor, 1976), ‘Jab deep jale aana’ (Chitchor) or ‘Teri bholi muskaan’ (Babul), ‘Goriya re’ (Naiyya, 1979). A brilliant music composer and lyricist he composed songs for many reputed banners of the industry including Rajshri Productions and R.K. Productions. Songs like ‘Ankhiyon ke jharokhon se’ (Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se, 1978) is still remembered by many for its melodious tunes. From Nadiya Ke Paar (1982) to Ram Teri Ganga Maili (1985) or Henna (1992), his repertoire was always full of amazing songs.
This versatile talent attracted the attention of numerous personalities of both film and television industry. After giving many hits in Bollywood he began composing music for television serials also. Best remembered for his association with Sagar Films he was instrumental for beautiful bhajans and songs for Ramanand Sagar's popular TV serials, Ramayan and Luv Kush. His other popular works were "Shri Krishna", "Alif Laila", "Sai Baba", "Jai Hanuman" and "Dharti Ka Veer Yodha Prithviraj Chauhan" etc. He also worked with actress Hema Malini as composer for her dance ballets--Mahalakshmi, Durga, Nritya Malika, Ramayan, Krishna Balram, and Radha Krishna. He was a judge on Indian music reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2009.

Illness and Death
Affected with from kidney ailments he was undergoing treatment at Lilavati hospital in Bandra. He breathed his last at 4.10 on Friday, October 9th due to multiple organ failure.
